The Canton Corner

Canton TWP, MI Community

Looking for a fun, family-friendly way to make the most of the cold season? Instead of staying indoors, grab your skates and head to Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Canton, Michigan. Whether you’re a beginner testing the ice for the first time, a hockey enthusiast, or just someone looking for an active outing, Arctic Edge has something for everyone. Let’s take a closer look at why this spot should be on your must-visit list.

Learn to Skate: From Wobbly to Wonderful

Ever wanted to glide across the ice with confidence? Arctic Edge’s Learn to Skate program is perfect for anyone looking to master the basics. Open to kids as young as 3½ years old and adults of all ages, these eight-week sessions are designed to help you build skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Classes are available on Mondays (6:30–7:15 PM) and Saturdays (10:00–10:45 AM or 11:00–11:50 AM). The fee is $120 for eight lessons, including unlimited free open skate passes during your session. That means extra practice time—or just extra fun—at no additional cost.

Juice Box Hockey: Small Players, Big Dreams

If your little one has dreams of becoming the next hockey star, Juice Box Hockey is the perfect introduction. Designed for kids who’ve completed at least one Learn to Skate session, this program focuses on hockey fundamentals in a playful and engaging way. Classes are held on Saturdays from 12:00–12:50 PM (shifting to 1:00–1:50 PM starting January 11). It’s a great way for kids to learn teamwork and coordination and maybe even score their first goal.

Sunday Open Skate Is Back!

Not interested in lessons or leagues? No problem! Sunday Open Skate is ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy casual time on the ice. From 4:30 to 5:50 PM, you can skate at your own pace with family or friends. Check the online calendar for specific dates and bring your best moves—or just focus on staying upright; we won’t judge.

Skate Where Champions Have Trained

Here’s a fun fact: Arctic Edge has been home to some of figure skating’s biggest names. Olympic champions like Nathan Chen, Meryl Davis & Charlie White, and Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir have all trained here. While most of us won’t be competing on the world stage anytime soon, skating on the same ice as these legends is exciting.

Arctic Edge also supports synchronized skating teams through its Arctic Figure Skating Club. This is a great place to start if competitive skating is your thing—or if you’re looking for a new challenge.

More Than Just Skating

There’s more happening at Arctic Edge than just figure-eights and hockey drills. Here are some other ways you can enjoy the rink:

  • Birthday Parties: Want a unique way to celebrate? Host your party on the ice! Packages include reserved ice time and party space.
  • Adult Hockey Leagues: Hockey isn’t just for kids! Join one of the adult leagues for some friendly competition and camaraderie.
  • Drop-In Sessions: Perfect if you’re looking for flexible ice time without committing to a full program.

Pro Tips for Your Visit

  • Don’t have skates? No worries—rentals are available for just $2 per session.
  • Dress warmly but comfortably; layers work best so you can adjust as needed.
  • Helmets are recommended for beginners (especially kids) to keep things safe.
  • Arrive early if it’s your first visit; getting fitted for skates can take a few extra minutes.

Stream Your Ice Time With LiveBarn

Want to capture your skating adventures? Arctic Edge is part of the LiveBarn network, which lets you stream live or on-demand footage from the rink. Use the code AEIA-MICH for a 10% discount when signing up. Whether you want to relive your best moments or laugh at your less graceful ones, LiveBarn has you covered.

Don’t let the cold season pass by without a visit to Arctic Edge. With programs for every age and interest—and a legacy of training Olympians—this Canton local proves that ice isn’t just for polar bears. Grab your gloves, call 734-487-7777, and get ready to make some frosty memories.
